The Moving Finger writes: and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it.

RECORD OF MEETING OF caMMac COMMITTEE ON 20 APRIL 2009 AT CB2

Present: Asam Bashir, Martin Dove, Chris Barker, Sailesh Raithatha, Ian Frame and Rashid Zaman.

Purpose: to continue discussion about the full establishment of the Cambridge Macintosh Users’ Group – “caMMac” – how to proceed with meetings and their subjects.
Scispace
  • Asam asked Ian about a comment box; this might be possible with the next revision.
Website
  • The constitution should be added to the website [will be done this weekend].
  • Adjust various details such as widths [done].
  • Sailesh agreed to devise a banner for the top of the Home Page.
  • Chris agreed to put links in the sidebar to Facebook page etc ... and link on the Home Page to the Scispace blog.
Association with Cambridge University
  • Martin had talked to the University proctors about the Group’s association with the University and had news about the necessary composition of the Group and its directing body, the Committee.
  • To become a university affiliated society we need to have around half of the members of caMMac being students (undergrad or postgrad) and half the Committee must be students. Moreover, the senior posts on the Committee (chair, secretary, junior treasurer) have to be students. Martin suggested that this should be an early aspiration but we shouldn't worry about it right now.
Cambridge Apple Store
  • Martin had spoken to the staff at the Apple Store to guage the usefulness of a relationship with the Group.
  • The manager is keen on there being such a relationship, but freedom of movement constrained.
  • The staff all have to sign an NDA with Apple, and their scope for doing things within this NDA was difficult. Martin suggested to the staff that caMMac might be interested in talks about what it is like to be a genius or demonstrator. The person he spoke to suggested that he email the Apple Store manager, which he did but has yet to receive a reply (presumably now it won't come).
  • Asam had spoken to the staff at CanCom and would need to write to establish what sort of relationship was possible between that shop and the Group.
Next Meeting
  • The next meeting would be held in May; decided later on Wed 20 May at CB2, starting at 1830.
